“I was once told where the Neuner's came from by the old fellow from Böblingen, who was a widely travelled man and had come back from in Jerusalem1890. This is how it went: there was great overpopulation in the Danube basin on the Black Sea during the time of Maria Theresa, which was solved in the only way they knew how in those days:

"All men had to line up and every ninth man was to
take his horse and all his possessions and emigrate."

The fact that the name Neuner comes directly from these nines, stands to reason because there are great numbers of Neuners present in these districts today, particularly in the South and North Tyrol regions as well as on the southern Bavarian mountain edge.
